President

Virginia Reid  |   Olympia, WA 98502  |  360.866.2636  |  email: Virginia
My husband (Gary) and I live in Olympia, Washington, with our big, goofy, loving Leo, Tater. We first found out about Leonbergers when we attended the Seattle Kennel Club dog show in March of 2006. We did a double take when we saw these large, beautiful dogs down one of the aisles – we were smitten and never looked back. Two months later we added our first Leo, Lucy, to our family and joined LCNW. We added a second Leo, Tater, to our family in 2009. Lucy passed of Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia this past March, and we still miss her every day.

I was elected Secretary of LCNW in August of 2007, and took a year off from the LCNW board last year. As President I am looking forward to becoming more involved with the club, keeping the members informed about Leo events, and getting to know all of you better.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions I might be able to help answer.

I have been a member of the LCA and LCNW since getting my first leonberger, Chaucer, in August of 1999. I was only interested in a pet, so Chaucer, although shown by fellow LCNW members when he was a young stud, was neutered shortly after he turned one.

Just before Chaucer's 3rd birthday, I got a call from his breeder stating that Chaucer's littermate, Sophia, needed a new home. I could not resist. So after three years apart, the littermates, Chaucer and Sophie, were reunited. They very quickly became known as "The Goons." But hanging out with the fabulous and fun leolovers of the LCNW infected me the show bug so I began my quest for that special leo boy to strut around the ring. In the summer of 2010 Bamse traveled from Norway and joined our family. And just over a year later, all the way from Sweden, Mr. Paddington Bear, became a Holsten. I lost Chaucer at the age of twelve in November of 2011. Sophie crossed the rainbow bridge in July of 2012, at the remarkable age of thirteen! Now it is just the foreign fellows, and although, I have fun showing the boys, I am more about the social aspect, and just crave a chance to hang out with others who find this breed so special.

Besides my furry kids, I have a pee wee handler, named Malorie, and a wonderful, supportive husband, Brian, who comes to shows with me and does all grunt work while I hang out and occasionally do a few laps around the ring.
